Build a Foundation
Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.
To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.
Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.
The 1st Annual Sarasota Military Academy Sprint Into Spring 5K Run is open to the public and takes place on Saturday, March 4th, 2017 at beautiful Nathan Benderson Park. Go all out on the trails surrounding this world-class recreational venue or enjoy a picturesque stroll along the lake. All proceeds from this race benefit Sarasota Military Academy's cadet athletic, academic, and social programs.
This race, sponsored by Sarasota Military Academy's Parent Teacher Cadet Council, is chip-timed. 5K runners will receive an event t-shirt. Enjoy the post-race family festival with antique car show, music, silent auction, raffle prizes, arts/crafts, youth activities, and food. Early packet pickup at Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle, is Friday, March 3rd from 4-6 p.m.
WALKERS ARE WELCOME and encouraged to attend.
Children under 5 years old are free, but will not receive an event t-shirt. Adults (18 and up) may register on race day at check-in for $35. Youth (under 18) may register on race day for $30. Event t-shirts not guaranteed for those registering on race day.

• Early packet pick-up from 4-6 p.m. at Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle
Saturday, March 4th
• Check-in/Packet Pick-up/Race Day Registration takes place at the check-in tent from 7:00 - 7:55 a.m.
• 5K starts at 8:00 a.m. sharp
• Awards Ceremony at the hospitality tent at 9:30 a.m.
Who Does This Event Benefit? The proceeds of the SMA Sprint Into Spring 5K Run and 1st Annual Family Spring Festival benefit athletic, academic, and social programs for cadets at Sarasota Military Academy. Feeling generous? You can make an additional tax-deductible donation any time during the 5K and festival at the hospitality tent.
Where Do We Run? The marked course in on the trails around the lake. Jogging and large-wheeled strollers will be fine on the course. We advise against small-wheeled strollers.
Where Can I Find the Race Results? The race results will be emailed to you at your registered email address within 48 hours of the race.
What Awards Will There Be? Overall male & female finishers will receive a trophy. The top three male/female finishers in the following categories will receive medals:

Where Can I Pick Up My Award? If you can't stay for the award ceremony, you may pick up your 1st-3rd place trophy at the main administrative office of Sarasota Military Academy's high school campus, 801 N. Orange Avenue, Monday - Friday, March 6-10, between 8:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Awards not picked up by 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 10th will be forfeited.
What Happens If It Rains? This event is rain or shine. In the event of a serious weather event, Nathan Benderson Park reserves the right to cancel the race, without refund, for your safety. Should the run be postponed or rescheduled because of weather or acts of God, your registration will be honored at our next event.
What If I Can't Make The Race? We cannot issue refunds. The cost and logistics of setting up and planning the event makes refunds impossible.
PARKING: $5 cash per car, collected by Nathan Benderson Park, benefiting Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates (SANCA).
