Tip Of The Day

Build a Foundation

Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.

To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.

Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.

Forgotten Forest Ultra Trail Run

NEMOPHILIST (n.) A haunter of the woods; one who loves the forest and it's beauty and solitude.

Race, Run, Jog, Hike or Walk !
Neatly nestled away, Roosevelt Forest will be brought to life with the running of the second Forgotten Forest Ultra Run !
The Ultra run will last 9 hours from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. All Racers, Runners, Joggers, Hikers and Walkers are invited to participate in this very friendly event. Do as many miles or hours, as you wish. Experience on a trail is mandatory for safety, so a little practice is warranted. There will be an award for first, second and third overall and first male and female in the category of senior/master or 55 years of age and older (may adjust woman to 50+) with most miles completed. Also, an Ultra Medal for anyone participating for 4 or more hours. You will travel over a single and double track trail with a little elevation on a double loop of 3.5 and 2.7 miles; a completed course loop is then 6.2 or a 10K. The loops will be well marked with signs and white and pink flags; no getting lost! There will be a few out and backs of which you will pass each other, over the hours, and cheer each other on! Still it is, also a great 100 mile training run. Dunkin' Donuts bagels, donuts to start and coffee all day with pizza at 1 PM. Amped Fuel/Hydration and Gu gels, hourly. You must be at least 18 years of age. A charitable portion of this race will go to the Roosevelt Forest Trail Commission and the Stratford EMS and the Stratford Eagle Scouts. A very important thing to note is, this is limited to only 50 participants, so register early and save money and reserve your spot for a day in the Forgotten Forest ! Registration is non-refundable because of cost endured, it will then be considered a donation. Race, Run, Jog, Hike or Walk, you have up to 9 hours to do YOUR BEST (you have the option of less miles and hours, also). See you soon and Happy Trails !
