Avoid Skipping Recovery

Listening to your body is key to avoiding injury and burnout. Your body can actually grow stronger when you are at rest. The process of training includes workouts that are strategically placed along with rest days, which provides stimulation during the activity and recovery when you are at rest. If you are new to running, it is important not to push yourself to hard. Injuries can pop up when training advances too quickly. If your body is giving you warning signs, listen and take the extra time off so you can fully adjust and recover to meet your specific fitness needs.

  • Early packet pick-up late registration on Saturday, December 2, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, at Pacers Running Store, 3100 Clarendon Boulevard, Arlington VA 22201 (703-248-6883)  --  Free parking underground at Trader Joe's, 1200 North Garfield Street, Arlington VA 22201 -- 90 minutes free with any purchase
  • Race-day packet pick-up and race-day registration on Sunday, December 3, 10:15 AM to 10:45 AM, on-site at Glencarlyn Park, 4955 Columbia Pike, Arlington VA 22204 -- Free parking on-street and at nearby shopping plazas
  • Race-day schedule:  
  • 9:00 AM -- Christmas tree sales begin
  • 10:00 AM -- Christmas tree sales pause
  • 10:15 AM -- Race-dat packet pick-up and race-day registration open on-site
  • 10:50 AM -- Official welcome to the race by race manager Jay Jacob Wind and race director Emily Carnes
  • 10:52 AM -- Introduction of the officers of Arlington South Lions Club and Old Dominion Eye Foundation
  • 10:55 AM -- Presentation of the colors and National Anthem
  • 10:57 AM -- Course description and safety instructions
  • 10:59 AM -- Baby stroller and wheelchair start
  • 11:00 AM -- Run / Walk start
  • 11:15 AM -- First finisher
  • 11:45 AM -- Last finisher (approximate)
  • 11:50 AM -- Presentation of awards -- 1st, 2nd, 3rd male & female overall; 1st, 2nd, 3rd male & female in 10-year age groups -- We will soon announce the awards, courtesy of our sponsors
  • 12:00 noon -- Thank you and Happy Holidays to all
  • 1:00 PM -- Christmas tree sales resume
