Build a Foundation
Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.
To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.
Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.
The 4th Annual Run NNK Earth Day 5K will be held Saturday April 21, 2018 at 8:00 am. The race will kick off the Heathsville Earth Day Celebration and Rice's Hotel/Hughlett's Tavern Farmers Market. Runners, walkers, and dogs (on leashes) are welcome. There will be a free Tot Trot for kids 5 and under at 9:15. A cash prize of $1000 will be awarded to the school with the most race entrants. You do not need to be a student of the school you are supporting. Simply enter the name of the school you are running for or supporting on the entry form. Get family and friends to enter and designate a school!
RUN NNK is a tax-exempt non-profit organization. We obtain our exempt status from our parent organization, Road Runners Club of America.
Race Information: The race will start and end at the Northumberland Historical Society at 86 Back St., Heathsville, VA. The manually timed 5K will begin at 8:00 a.m., followed by a Tot Trot at 9:15
Registration Information: Registration is $25.00 ($10 for studentsr) Registrations after April 15 will be $30.00(Adult) & $12.00 (Student). There is no charge for the Tot Trot.
The first 100 registered runners/walkers will be guaranteed a specially designed T shirt and water bottle. Post race refreshments will be provided. All Kids Run participants will receive a prize!
Course Description: The course begins near the Northumberland Historical Society, follows Back Street to and across US Route 360 onto Spring Road to the 1.55 mile turnaround and return. The course is moderately hilly. Water stops at 1 and 2 miles.
Packet Pickup On Site Registration & Facilities: Packet pick and on-site registrations will be Friday April 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church (6807 Northumberland Highway), and late registrations & packet pickup on race morning between 7:00-7:30 near the race start. Porta-Johns will be available near the starting line.
Awards: Overall Male/Female, age group, and school student team challenge winners will be awarded.
