Avoid Skipping Recovery

Listening to your body is key to avoiding injury and burnout. Your body can actually grow stronger when you are at rest. The process of training includes workouts that are strategically placed along with rest days, which provides stimulation during the activity and recovery when you are at rest. If you are new to running, it is important not to push yourself to hard. Injuries can pop up when training advances too quickly. If your body is giving you warning signs, listen and take the extra time off so you can fully adjust and recover to meet your specific fitness needs.

Ben Is A Fighter 5K

My nephew, Benjamin Ferrara has a genetic disorder called Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). This disorder affects multiple systems within the body and increases the tendency for tumor formation. Benjamin was first diagnosed with NF1 in 2015 just after his second birthday. MRI studies revealed an inoperable brain tumor on his optic nerve for which he received frequent chemotherapy treatments for more than a year to improve his vision. With the tumor size unchanged, his parents continue to work with multiple healthcare providers to address physical and learning disabilities, while monitoring for additional effects from NF1. Benjamin continues to learn and play with his brothers Johnathan (8) and Nicholas (6). As a military family, they are presented with unique challenges and are separated from our family support.

This 5k run/walk on October 13, 2018, is to raise money for Benjamin and his family.  We are looking forward to seeing all of you on race day in support of Benjamin!

Event details and schedule

The race will take place on October 13, 2018 @ 730am.  The timed course will be mapped within the City of Atlantis and the event will begin and end at the Atlantis Country Club located at 190 Atlantis Blvd.  Atlantis Police will assist with the traffic and lane closures.  There will be plenty of parking for runners at the club.  You can arrive as early as  6am.  Sponsor tables will be set up as well as water and refreshment tables for pre and post run participants.  

Finisher medals will be given to all runners.  You will receive your race shirt and bib during packet pick-up.

Packet pick-up will be located at Fit2Run in the Wellington Green Mall.  Dates for pick-up will be posted as the event nears.

Virtual runners will also receive a t-shirt and finisher medal after 10/13/18.
