The process of training includes workouts that are strategically placed along with rest days, which provides stimulation during the activity and recovery when you are at rest. If you are new to running, it is important not to push yourself to hard. Injuries can pop up when training advances too quickly. If your body is giving you warning signs, listen and take the extra time off so you can fully adjust and recover to meet your specific fitness needs.

Canaan Valley is just miles from the rugged backcountry of Dolly Sods and Canaan Mountain, the amazing vertical feet of Blackwater Falls State Park, and the luxury of Canaan State Park Resort.Neighboring towns Davis and Thomas offer eclectic restaurants, multiple breweries, art galleries, and live entertainment just miles from the race course that make the Canaan Valley Half Marathon and 10K a perfect reason to make this a runcation. Although it is a world away, Canaan Valley is only a half day's drive from major metropolitan areas including Washington D.C., Pittsburgh, Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Columbus.
The race route takes you through the stunning - and surprisingly flat - Canaan Valley, so get ready to set a new PR. Starting off at the Canaan Valley State Park Ski area, the course travels north through the Valley. Runners travel up and down Route 32 with views of the protected streams and bogs inside the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge right off the road. The course then runs east down Freeland Road, providing more spectacular views of Timberline and Canaan Valley ski areas and the Wildlife Refuge. Runners will pass White Grass Cross Country Ski Area, a popular wintertime spot. Whether you are going for speed, the views, or the camaraderie, this fast, beautiful route will not disappoint.
