Build a Foundation

Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.

To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.

Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.


37th Annual Mulberry Island Half Marathon and 5K

The 37th Annual Mulberry Island Half Marathon and 5k Run takes place on Fort Eustis, an active Army installation and half of Joint Base Langley-Eustis. The Half Marathon starts on Lee Blvd, runs along the James River, past the historic Matthew Jones House, along the side of The Pines Golf Course, and ends in front of Anderson Field House. You'll be motivated throughout the entire course by volunteers, Active Duty military members, and will get to see what a real Army installation looks like.

Access to Fort Eustis: Runners without a valid DOD ID will be required to stay to the right as they approach the main gate in order to obtain a temporary pass to enter Post. Please have a valid "The REAL ID Act of 2005" form of Identification of everyone in the vehicle, along with current vehicle insurance and registration. Please refer to https://www.dhs.gov/current-status-states-territories for more information.

Half Marathon: $40 ($45 on and after Sept. 1)

5k Run: $25 ($30 on and after Sept. 1)

19 & Under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 , 70 & Over

Prizes:

Prizes for Top 3 Overall Winners in each event (Half Marathon and 5K) + Custom Finsher Medals for both events. Custom Finisher Medal addition for top 3 in each age division.

This is a Peninsula Track Club Grand Prix event.
