Build a Foundation
Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.
To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.
Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.
The Andrew Schmeer Foundation honors the memory of Andrew Schmeer who was tragically killed on September 8, 2014 in a car accident. Funds raised in this 5K will help to recognize well-rounded students along the Treasure Coast each year by providing college scholarships for those in need. We are also raising funds for donations for children in Hospice and "Dogs and Cats Forever" Pet Rescue.
The 5K "GLOW" Run/Walk start at South Causeway Park on South Beach (next to the Historical Museum). Racers will run along the Ft. Pierce Inlet, cross over the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway and back. Runners will "GLOW" as they run the 5K course and finish the race through our candle lit finish line.
Children ages 5-12 will also have a 1/ 4 mile "GLOW" run of their own.
Certification of course by USA Track and Field.
Registration starts at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday October 13, 2018. The race will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Awards will be given to the top 3 male and female finishers in these catergories: 5-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 & older.
