Build a Foundation

Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.

To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.

Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.

Boreas Trail Adventure

Boreas, the Greek God of the North Wind and bringer of Cold Weather, can be a trickster and no one knows this better than those who run! The challenging but fun trails of Bristol Woods are ideal to let Boreas know that he cannot stop you! This 3-mile looped course will consist of single track trails and wide groomed paths that lead you on an adventure through this 197-acre park! This event allows the participant to decide their distance for the event based on fitness, goals, and Boreas. The three distances of 3, 6 or 9 miles are the perfect distance to keep you on track and show winter that it cannot slow you down. (Figuratively of course... running in the snow actually does slow you down!) This event is part of the 2019/20 CaniCross Event Series. Canicross Athletes will run a timed 3.0 mile (approximate) loop. There will be an option to run more loops should you and your pup desire. Please note that CaniCross athletes start 15 minutes before the runners/walkers. CaniCross athletes start at 10:15 a.m. and the runners/walkers will start at 10:30 a.m. After you are done, enjoy warm food and warmer company around a bonfire. Please BYO beverage or dessert to share! Entertaining trail stories and some surprises will make this Trail Adventure one that you will not forget! This event is perfect for all fitness levels and is dog-friendly for those not interested in participating in the CaniCross Event XCThrillogy is offering RUNSURANCE on this event. If for any reason you are unable to attend the Boreas Trail Adventure, you can defer your entry to next year's event, run a similarly priced event, or get 80% of your entry fee refunded. Select RUNSURANCE as an option during registration if you are interested.
