Build a Foundation

Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.

To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.

Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.

Hill Yeah Half Marathon and 3 person Relay

The 11th annual Lake Health Hill Yeah! Half Marathon is scenic, winding through the Lake Metroparks Farmpark, Chapin Forest, and Penitentiary Glen Reservation, all the while running the surrounding roads that will test the best in you. Both the Half Marathon and Half Marathon 3-person relay events will be chip timed, and both start and finish at Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland, Ohio. There will be a pre-race packet pickup on Saturday at Second Sole Mentor. Saturday: 11am - 6pm Race day registration and packet pickup will be available Sunday morning from 6:30 am - 7:15 am at Lake Metroparks Farmpark, 8800 Euclid Chardon Road (Rt 6) in Kirtland, OH 44094. RELAY INFORMATION A team of three runners will complete the entire half marathon distance. Each runner will run one leg of varying distance handing off a runners belt containing your scoring chip to the next team member at each relay exchange zone. The course is the same as the half marathon course and the start time is the same time as the reguslar half marathon. Exchange zones will be marked and all handoffs must occur within these zones. The Hill Yeah! Half Marathon Relay approximate race distances will be as follows: relay 1: 4.5 miles (exchange point: Chapin Forest, near Rt 306 entrance) relay 2: 2.95 miles (exchange point: Penitentiary Glen Reservation, near main entrance) relay 3: 5.65 miles (finish line) A bus will transport you to and from the relay exchange points. The divisions include: 1) All male 2) All female 3) Coed All relay runners will receive a technical race shirt along with a finisher medal.
