Tip Of The Day

Build a Foundation

Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.

To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.

Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.

Gordon Memorial 5k

Gordon Memorial 5k is organized as part of our annual Good Neighbor Days Event. In 2014 one of our runners coined The Gordon Memorial 5K "small-town race with big-time heart!" The course is run exclusively by volunteers. The 5k terrain is challenging and we do not recommend strollers. Please be aware this is a partial trail run with a portions of the course sand, gravel, and blacktop. We offer 1 water station on the course and bottled water at the end of the race. Some great features include plenty of parking, runner bag pickup is easy & quick with lots of cool stuff in them, online registration is incredibly convenient, the race is chip timed and runners registered before June 21st are guaranteed a shirt. Gordon Good Neighbor Days has several events Including mud volleyball, duck races, world-class fireworks, Parade, 2 nights of "street" dances, flea market and more! Plenty of fun for the whole family!
