Tip Of The Day

Avoid Skipping Recovery

Listening to your body is key to avoiding injury and burnout. Your body can actually grow stronger when you are at rest. The process of training includes workouts that are strategically placed along with rest days, which provides stimulation during the activity and recovery when you are at rest. If you are new to running, it is important not to push yourself to hard. Injuries can pop up when training advances too quickly. If your body is giving you warning signs, listen and take the extra time off so you can fully adjust and recover to meet your specific fitness needs.

Participants will start in waves beginning in 15 minute intervals from 9:00 am, during registration you will be able to select your preferred start wave.Your race bib will have timing chips attached so we'll know when you started and crossed the finish. Make sure your bib is securely pinned to your shirt before the start! Want to take part with friends under a team name? There are a couple of ways you can do that. Organizations wishing to reserve an entire wave (30 participants) should select the Corporate entry option. The first team member to register will be required to confirm a single payment for the entire team and create a team password. Team members who wish to register for that team will be required to enter the team password but will not be charged an additional entry fee. Additional charges will apply if a team member wishes to purchase parking or entry for spectators. Alternatively, if you want to take part as a smaller group, select the Individual / Group registration option and after confirming the race waiver you will be able to create a Group Team or join an existing one that a friend or family member has already created. When a Group Team is created, the use of a password for use by others to join the team is optional. Please also note that joining a team may not guarantee you all being able to participate in the same start wave if spaces are available at registration. What is included with my entry? When you register online, you will receive: A free tee shirt. Finisher medal. A $2.00 discount coupon toward clothing or merchandise will be given to any participant who brings a non-perishable food item, or new, unopened personal health/hygiene product for donation on the day of event (soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, shaving cream, feminine products, diapers, wipes, moisturizing cream, triple antibiotic, etc.). Burgers, dogs, and other “Food Truck Fare” will be available for purchase from On the Spot Catering on race day. Alcohol is only available to those of legal drinking age. From the start you will have to negotiate muddy trails, obstacles and a leap through fire, before getting back to the finish at Tamarack Lodge! Spending money for food, drink, apparel and merchandise. A change of clothes if you think you will feel too icky in your wet muddy ones – a secure gear storage space will be made available on site. A print of your online registration confirmation. Where will I be able to collect my race packet? Packet pick-up will be made available throughout the day on site only and separated alphabetically, beginning one half hour prior to the first wave of the day. Packets will not be shipped to participants. Your packet includes your race bib, corresponding timing chip, and t-shirt. You’ll need your photo ID to pick up your packet as well as a signed and dated copy of your participant waiver. NO ONE RECEIVES THEIR RACE PACKET WITHOUT AN ID AND CONFIRMATION OF WAIVER ACCEPTANCE. To speed up check-in on race day, remember to bring the online registration confirmation that will be sent to you via email. If you forget, we will have copies of the waiver form on site, in a separate area. Picking up for a friend? Sorry but race bibs and chips may not be picked up by anyone but the participant. In order to pick up a friend’s t-shirt, please bring a copy of your friend’s photo ID and a signed letter from your friend stating permission to pick up materials on his or her behalf – yes, it is kind of like the permission slip you needed in school, from your parent or guardian, to take a different bus home! Where will the post race party take place? Music, food, drinks, the 50/50 raffle ticket sales and festivities kick off at approximately 9:30 am, 30 minutes after the first wave begins. HOWEVER, please note that outside food and drink is prohibited. No pets allowed. Plenty of seating and tables will be available for public use, along with many awesome food and beverage choices for purchase. BEST BEARD What is the big attraction? Why is there a sudden beard cult? What is so appealing about facial fur? Is it a throwback to our days as cave men and women? Are men becoming ZZ Top wanna bees? Did it continue after no shave November? Or maybe it is just the guys from Duck Dynasty who have become the new holders of the best beard awards in facial hair history!! Which of our furry friends at The Charity Challenge Down & Dirty Mud Run doesn't want to win a prize for their fantastic facial fuzz? The Best Beard competition takes place during the awards ceremony, and the winner walks away with a pint glass and a free pass to any future Charity Challenge event. COSTUME CRAZINESS Participants who, through all the mud & sweat are still wearing their best attempt at a costume at the end of the day, deserve some serious praise and adoration! That is where the audience comes in. Costumed contestants are called on stage where winners are selected by popular vote – so make sure all your biggest fans are in the audience so you receive the loudest cheers. The Challenger with the best costume will win a wine glass and a free registration to a future Charity Challenge event of their choice.
