Build a Foundation
Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.
To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.
Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.
GLOBAL ENERGY RACE IS BACK!
Bimbo Bakeries is proud to host its 4th annual Global Energy Race! On Sunday, September 22nd, 35 cities and 22 countries will join together to set families and individuals of the world in motion. The annual event continues in Orlando, which joins four other U.S. cities in hosting the 2019 Global Energy Race. You can find all the race day fun at Festival Park in downtown Orlando!
About Global Energy Race
Global Energy Race is for everyone: competitive runners, casual walkers, families, friends, and everyday joggers looking to come out and participate in Bimbo's healthy, active lifestyle initiative. It is truly a global event; In 2016, Global Energy Race broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the most 10K races held simultaneously worldwide on the same day!
Bimbo Bakeries is also proud to partner with local area food banks during September (Hunger Awareness Month). For every kilometer completed by participants, 2 slices of bread will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank to support the local Orlando community. Every step helps feed someone in need.
The Global Energy Race festival area at Festival Park will feature a post-race recovery zone, refueling snack stations, food trucks, music, special guests, and much more! Make sure to check it out!
The race kicks off at Festival Park, making its way throughout the streets of beautiful downtown Orlando. Runners will journey for miles along palm tree lined streets and make their way around Lake Underhill, a picturesque 1.3-mile trail looping around a charming downtown lake. Participants will finish back at Festival Park where they will be able to cool down in the free post-race recovery zone.
The 10K is a USATF certified course. Chip timing will be used for the 10K & the 5K.
