Build a Foundation

Add some variety to your exercise routine. Run one day and strength train the next. This will not only hold your interest in the workouts longer, but it will give your body the time it needs for recovery. Additionally, you are covering more muscle groups throughout the body and keeping the workouts motivating and different.

To build up endurance for your 5K race include some interval training as part of your regimen. Use hill sessions and up-tempo to your runs to do this. Hold a steady running pace where you do not feel like you are just about to die, but that you can keep going.

Head to the track for shorter interval runs while learning to pace yourself. Learn to conserve your energy during the first part of the race and then to let go in the second half so you can make it to the finish line of you 5K race.

Santa Claws Fun Run 2019

The Santa Claws Fun Run is a non-competitive event that is great for the whole family! The Santa Claws Fun Run benefits the members of the Bengal Student Professional Association of Sports Medicine at Idaho State University. The event features a 5K race for adults (and children accompanied by an adult) as well as a 1K race for the kiddos!  Meet Santa at the event base and load up on Christmas “Swag” at the swag stations distributed along 5K course.  We will also be hosting a raffle. Bring canned goods or an item from the list below to exchange for FREE RAFFLE TICKETS.  RAFFLE WINNERS WILL BE DRAWN DURING THE RACE, SO MAKE SURE YOU STOP BACK AT BASE TO SEE IF YOU WON! Don't want to pay the active.com registration fee? In addition to canned food, the following items will be accepted for free raffle tickets. Moneies and the items will be donated to a local charity.

Event details and schedule

Participant check-in will occur at 8:30 AM. The 1K race for kids will start at 9:00 AM. The 5K race will begin at 9:30 AM (parents may run beside their child if desired). Please come dressed in layers as our local weather is unpredictable. Hope for sunshine, but be ready for snow! Event parking will be in the large parking lot by the tennis courts of Reed Gym.
