Avoid Skipping Recovery

Listening to your body is key to avoiding injury and burnout. Your body can actually grow stronger when you are at rest. The process of training includes workouts that are strategically placed along with rest days, which provides stimulation during the activity and recovery when you are at rest. If you are new to running, it is important not to push yourself to hard. Injuries can pop up when training advances too quickly. If your body is giving you warning signs, listen and take the extra time off so you can fully adjust and recover to meet your specific fitness needs.

Pirate 5K Rum Runner

Ahoy Mateys! Grab yer pirate hat and decorate yerself for the 6th annual Pirate's Weekend 5K event. Enjoy a 3.1 mile run/walk through the beautiful village of Sylvan Beach. This is a pirate's party race for the entire family, therefore, strollers and dogs are welcome! The race will begin on Sunset Boulevard, near the bathhouse and beach access. There will be free parking for participants as well as bathrooms available. In order to receive a FREE race t-shirt you MUST pre-register BY JULY 8th. The first 150 people to register by JULY 8th will receive a free shirt. After July 8th, you will no longer be able to receive a t-shirt as they will be going to print. You will still be able to pre-register July 8th-July 15th but will NOT receive a t-shirt. We encourage you to pre-register well in advance!! Aside from the fun stuff, your participation supports a great cause. The Pirate 5K Rum Runner raises funds to benefit Sitrin’s Military Rehabilitation Program, which provides comprehensive care to post-9/11 veterans who have post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries, amputations, spinal cord injuries, and other combat-related conditions. Veterans who choose to be treated at Sitrin pay nothing for their care. Thanks to your participation and generosity, Sitrin can continue to provide free care to our nation’s heroes. http://www.sitrin.com/veteran-care The race cost is $20 until May 31st and then $25 from June 1st - July 19th. You will be able to register the morning of the 5K, but you will not receive a free t-shirt. Children 5 and under are free and do not require registration. **Early bib and t-shirt pick up - Saturday, July 18th 10am-noon in the Sylvan Beach Village Bandstand. Stick around for the Pirate Parade at 1pm!!! Register TODAY and join the fun!!! Monetary rewards to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place male and female participants.
