Tip Of The Day

Avoid Skipping Recovery

Listening to your body is key to avoiding injury and burnout. Your body can actually grow stronger when you are at rest. The process of training includes workouts that are strategically placed along with rest days, which provides stimulation during the activity and recovery when you are at rest. If you are new to running, it is important not to push yourself to hard. Injuries can pop up when training advances too quickly. If your body is giving you warning signs, listen and take the extra time off so you can fully adjust and recover to meet your specific fitness needs.

Pink Ribbon Walk and Run

The Breast Cancer Coalition is proud to announce that the 19th annual Pink Ribbon Run & Family Fitness Walk will return to Genesee Valley Park on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10. This event includes the premier Women’s 5K Race in the Greater Rochester region plus a Family Fitness Walk (2.3 or 3.6 mile courses) open to all and is dedicated to all women, men and children who have been impacted by a breast or gynecologic cancer diagnosis. This is a local event that stays local! Every dollar raised helps provide free programs and services to those diagnosed with breast or gynecologic cancer in our community. The event will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. near the Roundhouse Pavilion. Race prizes have been donated courtesy of Wegmans. There are also exciting fundraising incentives! This event grows every year and we anticipate over 2,000 people to participate this Mother’s Day! Pre-registration and packet pickup days will be held at the Coalition Wednesday, May 6 through Saturday, May 9. We will have local television and radio personalities and other local dignitaries participating in our event. We welcome survivors, grandmothers, grandfathers, mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, family members, friends and corporate teams to participate. Start your Mother’s Day with us and be done in time for brunch! There is plenty of free parking adjacent to the park and free shuttle parking at Marketplace Mall. Go to www.BreastCancerCoalition.org for registration, maps and more information.
